Discover Mocănița, the little steam train

This is the photo-story of my trip to Maramures, Northern Romania, close to the border with Ukraine, to discover Mocănița.

Mocănița is a narrow gauge railway built in 1932 and still operational with steam and diesel locomotives to transport wood from the higland to a processing plant in Viseu de Sus.

The line has been partially converted to touristic purposes: while working train runs six days a week, there are also touristic trains.

I spent some days on site and along the line with the workers to try to get the atmosphere of the place. Here you find an excerpt of my best photos. The whole story (in Italian) begins here. So come discover Mocănița with me!
