The bridge of love

Tumski Bridge, is a steel bridge over the north branch of the Odra river in Wrocław, Poland, at the entrance of Cathedral Island.

It is also known as Love bridge because it’s the place where lovers go to promise each other eternal love.

And as a mark of their promise, they lock a padlock with their names and the date at the bridge’s fence.   An important part of the ceremony is to throw the key into the Odra river.

Tumski Bridge (Polish: Most Tumski) is a steel bridge over the north branch of the Oder river in Wrocław, Poland. Constructed in 1889 it replaced an old wooden bridge to connect Ostrów Tumski and Wyspa Piaskowa. Until 1945, its name was Dombrücke. It is an old road bridge now open to pedestrians only. Tumski Bridge is also called Lovers Bridge, Cathedral Bridge or Green Bridge. It's a place of enamoured tradition for lovers. The bridge is full of padlocks which lovers leave to cherish their feelings. An important part of the ceremony is to throw the key into the Odra river.

You can find hundreds of padlocks here, with the names, dates, short messages.

And you can also find a stall at one side of the bridge, that sells padlocks and offers a table and pencils for the lovers to sit comfortably and write their best words before locking the padlock!

It happens almost in every town of Europe, but it’s the first time that I’ve seen this romantic ritual used for commercial purposes!
